Meet Samson. Ryan has been looking into fulfilling his dreams of having a big dog for a while now. I've been perfectly content with Zoe, but marriage is all about compromise, right?
I agreed to finally getting another dog IF we knew it could get along with Zoe (aka allow Zoe to pretend she rules the house) and if we adopted a foster dog. Puppies are adorable, but there are so many good dogs out there waiting for a good home and family, and knew the next dog I got would either be from a foster or animal shelter.
Ryan found Samson through the Great Dane Rescue of the Commonwealth. His family gave him up after having some health issues with their daughter and he stayed in foster for 6 weeks before we scooped him up out of Portsmouth and brought him home.
These pictures don't do him justice. Samson is 2 years old (still acts like a puppy for the most part) and weighs 120 pounds. Yes, a human. He also eats 12 cups a day....more than a human.
He's fit in perfectly and we'll be doing some obedience classes with him starting next week.
Quick facts: he's scared of the dark, typically sits with his legs crossed, does a grumbling talk when he has to do something he doesn't want to, looooooooves attention and loooooves people.
Ryan's heart is full, Zoe is content and I'm slowly adjusting to having to the clean the house EVERY day. Zoe will always be my #1, but he isn't so bad. :)
Zoe made a mistake of sitting under him while he was eating one day. That would be drool all over her back, and please note the kibble stuck to the top of her head.
His cage is a tad bigger than hers.
Guarding the house.
Forgive the mess I call myself...but this gives you an idea of how big he is compared to Zoe!
His tongue droops to one side of his mouth because he was born with some teeth missing on one side of his mouth.
Again with the leg crossing.
Ryan picked up some 2 for $10 pillows from Costco and we hated them. We threw them on the floor until we figured out what to do with them, and today Ryan found Samson PASSED OUT on this. How adorable??
We're slowly adjusting and glad to take him into our home! He's a gentle giant and so lovable. :)
